arranged for cello and guitar and recitation
The sound of cello imitates the emotionality of the human voice like no other instrument. Along with the intimate sound of the guitar, ideally recreates the mood that Heine described in his work as the “struggles of the romantic, torn poet”. Heine's poems are recited by world-renowned actor Hanns Zischler, which are interspersed with music, in a tender and sonorous performance by guitar - Jerzy Chwastyk and cello - Susanne Szambelan. "Über Liebe und Tod”, a piece comissioned especially for the album and composed by Michaela Catranis, is an homage to Robert Schumann’s Dichterliebe. As the composer describes herself, “it’s a mediation on the poet’s love, one unrequited, seeking solace in the language of flowers, the nightingale’s song and dreams of affection”. The album is produced by Swiss label PROSPERO Classical in an exclusive double CD edition and is accompanied by Heine's original poems with translations into English and Polish in the form of a booklet.

Robert Kabara - conductor
and Sinfonietta Cracovia
produced by DUX
“A world-class cellist”
“Flawless intonation, fine mastery of colors and dynamics, nobility of the tone and intimacy of expression unite. I haven’t heard such a gripping interpretation of the Dvořak’s concerto in a long time.”
“It is hard not to notice the genius of this young cellist, which is a result of her amazing performance technique and the enormous artistic sensitivity emanating through the interpretations of pieces performed by her.”
“The sensational soloist – Susanne Szambelan – perfectly captured the regret and sadness emanating from one of Dvořák’s greatest works.”
