“Flawless intonation, fine mastery of colours and dynamics, nobility of the tone and intimacy of expression unites”: with those words, Pizzicato Magazine describes Susanne’s debut album which she released in 2013 for the Polish label DUX, featuring Dvořák's Cello Concerto.
Polish cellist Susanne Szambelan was born in New York and grew up in Poznan, Poland. In 2014 Susanne moved to Berlin, where she completed her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” with Prof. Stephan Forck and Prof. Claudio Bohorquez. She has received further important musical impulses from Gary Hoffman.
Susanne’s great passion for chamber music has led to performances with artists such as Boris Brovtsyn, Daniel Hope and Scharoun Ensemble. From 2021 to 2024 Susanne had been the scholarship holder of the chamber music program Villa Musica Rheinland-Pfalz, Deutsche Orchester-Stiftung #MusikerZukunft 2023. She was also a scholarship holder at the Kurt Sanderling Academy of the Konzerthausorchester Berlin for 2022 and 2023. In 2023 she gave a recital at the Laeiszhalle Hamburg.
Susanne has performed at festivals such as the Krzyżowa-Music in Poland, Encuentro de Musica in Spain, Zermatt Festival in Switzerland and Paax Festival in Mexico. Her solo and chamber music performances have been broadcast on ARTE Concert and Deutschlandfunk Kultur, and Polish National Radio, among others.
Susanne’s projects, such as “Dichterliebe” (song cycle for cello, guitar and poetry published by Prospero Classical label) and “Kodály Reframed”, represent her deep interests for unconventional projects.
